PORTMANTEAU
[ /pɔrtˈmæntoʊ/ ]
1: a large suitcase.
2: a word or morpheme whose form and meaning are derived from a blending of two or more distinct forms (as smog from smoke and fog).
Merriam-Webster dictionary
Portmanteau Productions is a tiny company devoted to bringing together the worlds of craftsmenship and contemporary fine arts. We produce unique collaborative pieces between artists and craftsmen from all over the world and offer them to the public. We enable four-hand manufactures which would in normal conditions hardly ever happen due to distance, language barriers or costs. We believe that it is important to preserve thousand-year-old techniques and skills. We want to support contemporary artists and provide them with new tools. We like machines, but we prefer human beings.
We are not a mass production company. We believe in doing things slowly and well. We devote 100% of our attention and love to every single piece we produce. Our productions are 100% hand-made. We are 100% human. Imperfect and singular as we are.
Portmanteau also participates in other fields of contemporary art, such as exhibition curatorship and production, cultural affairs management and art dealing & consulting. Among those, you'll find us working with enterprises like IguapopProjects, dcode Festival or Meeatings23.
