Born in 1941, Carlos Vergara is one of the most important living contemporary artists from Brazil. Commissioned by MdM Gallery in partnership with YiA Art Fair / Hors-les-murs, we worked together with Carlos in the production of this exceptional exhibition. It took place in the chapel devoted to Saint Laurent of the XVth century church of Saint-Gravais-Saint-Protais, located right behind the Hôtel de Ville in Paris. Among the pieces that were shown, several monotypes brought to Paris the life within the stone walls of the mission of Sao Lourenço in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The central piece was a reproduction in wool of local sheeps of a missionary cross found on the same site. Originally from Spain, Vergara brought this cross back to Europe more than five centuries later.
